Toddler & Teen Bedroom Furniture

Transitioning a toddler to his first “big boy” bed is just one of the many exciting stages in your little one’s young life. Parents often wonder, “When is the right time to move my child from the crib to a bed?” Taking a toddler out of the crib is not an “age” decision, but a “stage” decision. All kids develop at a different rate and the right time to take a toddler out of the crib is when the child’s safety will not be compromised. If your child is trying to climb out of the crib and able to navigate over the crib side rails, the time is now! Your child can suffer serious injury from falling out of a crib.

There a many options for transitioning to a bed. Toddler beds that fit crib mattresses are a short term option that offers safety in low to the floor beds. However, this option is a temporary solution to taking your child from his crib to a youth bed. For many kids, transitioning from the comfort and familiarity of their crib to a new bed can be challenging. Going from a crib to a temporary toddler bed will only require another change in the near future. An easier and more cost effective option would be to go directly to a twin or full size bed. A child’s fall from their first bed is every parents fear. Various types of guard rails are available to provide the safety needed until they are ready to be removed. Most guard rails fit securely under a standard mattress and supported by the weight of the mattress and child while in bed.

At Beds Plus Kids Stuff transitioning your toddler to a twin bed is simple and safe with our optional safety guard rails that can be added to all standard twin and full size beds in our "Build-A-Bedroom" collections. Full length or three-quarter length guard rails can be attached to the side wood rails of your toddlers bed and removed when they are old enough to sleep securely on their bed. All hardware is attached on the inside of the rails, leaving all exposed rails free from holes when removed.

Our exclusive Jr. Loft beds are made with toddlers and young children in mind. Safe lower beds are perfect for the transition from the crib to a "big boy" bed and the Jr. Loft bed offers the fun of a bunk in a safe, mid-height loft bed. Jr. Lofts include storage pieces that fit nicely under the loft bed and frees up valuable floor space. Like all "Build-A-Bedroom" collections, there are many styles and up to 26 different paint and stain finishes available in our Toddler to Twin beds.
